What is pathology?

Pathology is the study of diseases – what causes them, how they affect the body, and what they do to organs, tissues, and cells.

Why does Iowa Pathology Associates have my specimen?

After removal of your specimen, your surgeon/provider will decide if it needs pathology to aid in the diagnosis. Pathology is the study of disease that helps explain why you are sick, what disease you might have, how serious the disease is, and how to treat it.

Where do I come in?

Iowa Pathology Associates takes what your surgeon/provider removes from you (biopsy, partial or full organ, blood, or fluid) and processes it in our laboratory. Our lab creates a microscope slide for our pathologists to review for abnormalities/disease. An official pathology report will be sent to your surgeon/provider.

Can I request my specimen be sent to Iowa Pathology Associates?
